Kant I

`If someone likes something and is conscious that he himself does so without any interest, then he cannot help judging that it must contain a basis for being liked that holds for everyone'. Discuss.

Reflect also on the following argument:

  1. According to Poetics, every work of art must have an end (katharsis, in the case of tragedy).
  2. According to the Critique of Judgement, aesthetic judgement must be devoid of all interest.
  3. Therefore, the aesthetical views of Aristotle and Kant are incompatible.
